Mayor Miguel “Ike” Ponce III confirmed Friday that Pateros now has cases of the highly contagious Delta variant, according to a report by Manila Bulletin.

“Our Department of Health confirmed to me yesterday that we really now have the Delta variant in Pateros,” the mayor said in a live broadcast on Facebook.

On Thursday, Ponce announced that he received a report that Pateros has two Delta variant cases and these were being verified and confirmed.

During an online media briefing Friday, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire presented a table showing that Pateros has two Delta variant cases.

The DOH reported 116 new Delta variant cases in the country, of which 83 cases are in the National Capital Region (NCR), 12 in the provinces, one is an overseas returning Filipino (ROF), and 20 are still being verified.

All the new Delta variant cases have recovered.

Vergeire said Pateros and Malabon are at the critical risk levels based on two-week growth rates (TWGR) and average daily attack rate (ADAR) of COVID-19 cases.

As of Aug. 4, Pateros’ total active COVID-19 cases jumped to 207 cases from 65 last July 28, or an increase of 218.46 percent. It has 4,992 confirmed cases, 4,718 recoveries, and 67 deaths.

Ponce discussed the different measures that the municipal government will be implementing during the two-week enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila from Aug. 6 to 20.

The unified curfew hours from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. in Metro Manila will start tonight (Aug. 6).

The mayor said all establishments except food and drug stores must close by 8 p.m. Those with online service and takeout deliveries will be allowed to operate during curfew.

Pateros will implement the use of the quarantine pass starting Saturday.

Each quarantine pass can be used by two people, who are 18 to 65 years old, per household and can only be used to buy essential goods.

The holder must also present an ID to authorities in order to verify his identity.

He said those who will be caught outside their home without a quarantine pass will be asked to go home and if they defy the order, they will be arrested and detained for eight hours.

Those who will be caught without or not properly wearing face masks and face shields will be arrested and detained.
