Pateros continues cleanup campaign

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Pateros municipal government proceeded with clearing operations in three barangays despite the heavy rainfall.

MMDA chairman Danilo Lim and Pateros Mayor Miguel “Ike” Ponce, with the MMDA Sidewalk Clearing Operations Group, dismantled and demolished illegal structures along sidewalks.

Lim praised Ponce’s effort, saying “I’m very much contented with the result of clearing operations here at Pateros. Very clean and organized.”

The activity is in line with President Duterte’s directive to reclaim all public roads in Metro Manila within 60 days. The MMDA conducted similar operations in Pasig and Pateros last 1 August.

Ponce said he has tapped all local officials to join in the endeavor.

“I had a meeting with the Sanggunian Bayan, and I’ve deputized all the councilors to assist us in clearing operations. Also, I’m planning to increase penalties and formulate additional local ordinances with regards to clearing operations,” he added.

Pateros, the only municipality in Metro Manila, is composed of 10 barangays.
